ABOUT ME
My name is Sarah Knapp and I’m a Michigander who’s been in Los Angeles for 15 years. I’m an award-winning screenwriter and in my past lives I was a journalist and a teacher (I retired from middle school after two years!). I write about women, women who wake up one day and realize they want more, women who want to jump into traditionally non-female occupied spaces, women who don’t have time to sit down and type out their own stories. I love writing and I’m beginning to love filmmaking as well.
A few years ago, I created my first web series which was produced with an amazing group of women, and as a bonus, we won a bunch of awards. I’ve also pitched a pilot to a network and then developed it for almost a year before they passed. But it was an amazing experience and only made me want to tell more stories (and tell those stories my way, with me at the helm, working with like-minded folks!).
Storytelling is one of the most important ways we share our lives and I love the idea of crafting those tales from a blank page. I write to inform, to educate, and mostly, to entertain. I love when I leave a movie, or finish a show, having gleaned something new and wanting more. Those are the stories I want to tell. The all-female SEAL team fighting domestic terrorists. The woman who’s balancing her job as an assistant district attorney and running the family business which is, well, a criminal enterprise. The female firefighter who got hurt on the job and now has to figure out her new career as an arson investigator as her son tries to burn the city down around her. The middle school teacher who falls in love with People’s Sexiest Man Alive but can’t find a plus-size dress for their first date.
I’m a writer who tells interesting, funny, dramatic stories. And I’m a director loves the process of bringing those stories to your screens. What can we create together?
